What Modesto Teachers Are Fighting For
For our students. For our schools. For the community we teach in.
Every one of these lands in your child’s classroom.
SMALLER CLASS SIZES
Fewer students in classrooms means more attention for your child, and more time for the ones who need it most. Modesto City Schools has one of the highest class size averages among the surrounding districts. We should not be increasing ANY class sizes.
SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORTS
Modesto City Schools cannot fill its special education vacancies. Every unfilled position means teachers are absorbing higher caseloads. Our students with disabilities are the ones who can least afford a revolving door of staff.
A COST OF LIVING INCREASE
Modesto teachers are going into a third year without a raise while the cost of living keeps climbing. Our district routinely carries 4 times the state required reserves. Today’s dollars should be spent on today’s students.
AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE
We want to attract and retain the teachers this community knows, trusts, and loves.
EVERY MONTH OUT OF THEIR POCKET. We can do better! Stable teachers = stable learning environments!
We are starting this school year without a contract.
Every one of these four things lands in your child’s classroom. Come to a Board of Trustees meeting. Tell your trustees a fair contract is a priority for your child and your family.

MTA supports YES on Prop 3 and YES on Measure K
Proposition 3
Provides Permanent Funding for Schools and Health Care by Extending Existing Tax on High Incomes.
- A YES vote means: “An income tax increase on high-income earners in place since 2012 would become permanent instead of expiring in 2031.”
- Passing Prop 3 helps protect the funding our schools need to provide quality education, retain great educators, and support all students across Stanislaus County.
- Modesto’s annual funding at risk: $126,111,840.
Title and YES statement: California Legislative Analyst’s Office. Second point and funding figure: MTA “Yes on Prop 3” flyer.
Measure K
School bonds to repair and upgrade Modesto City Schools high schools, without increasing tax rates
Bonds let the district borrow money to improve schools. The loan, plus interest, is repaid through property taxes.
If approved, Measure K would:
- Allow the District to issue additional bonds, providing $250 million in locally controlled funding.
- Continue upgrades to classrooms, science labs, job training facilities, and other school infrastructure.
- Extend the current bond tax rate at a reduced rate of approximately $24 a year per $100,000 of assessed (not market) value, instead of increasing it.
To pass, it needs a yes vote from at least 55% of those voting on the measure.
